Dont risk buying a leaky home

It is estimated that over 42,000 homes constructed in New Zealand are likely to be leaky. Generally these houses have been poorly constructed and built from materials that have not withstood the weather conditions. With the ingress of moisture, the timber framing rots and breaks down. This will compromise structural integrity, and cause mould growth. This has recently been termed  “Sick Building Syndrome” (SBS). Moulds can contribute to health issues, and may contribute to allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints.

This deterioration of the timber can very often go on without any visual signs, making it hard for the home owner to know the condition of their house without getting an infrared moisture inspection.

A house is possibly your biggest asset, so it is vitally important that you identify if it has any weather tightness issues. Infrared moisture inspections can pin point water damage non-invasively, giving you detailed information on the condition of the house. Getting an inspection undertaken before purchase could stop you buying a leaky home.

A Thermal Imaging moisture inspection should include a full written report and moisture layout plan providing you with details of the condition of the house or building. Infrared cameras allow us the ability to locate and track moisture that the naked eye is unable to detect. Infrared Imaging captures thermal anomalies of moisture or water damage from roof leaks, window leaks, cladding leaks and many more.

Infrared Inspections are an especially useful tool:

-Prior to purchase of a home

-Pre sale moisture checks

-Before maintenance of a residential home.

-Before a warranty of your home expires

-Leak detection and tracking

Infrared cameras along with moisture meters and an experienced/trained operator are the most accurate non invasive moisture inspection possible. If moisture goes undetected for long periods then it can deteriorate timber and cause structural damage that may cost hundred’s of thousands of dollars to repair if a re-clad is needed.

My advice – Don’t risk buying a leaky home! Get a Thermal Imaging Moisture Inspection before purchasing.
